Goal: To support graduate-student work on projects relating to the media, as defined in Media@McGill's mission statement.
Eligibility: PhD 4, 5 and 6 students are eligible (normally, students who are in their 3rd, 4th or 5th years in the program, during the academic year corresponding to the awarded fellowship i.e. 2014-2015). Students must have passed their comprehensive examinations at the time of application. Preference may be given to students who do not hold major fellowships from other sources. The AHCS Graduate Research Fellowship is not eligible twice.
Award: $10,000 paid out in two installments of $5,000– once at the beginning of the upcoming fall term and once at the beginning of the subsequent winter term.
Application materials: 1. A 500-word proposal outlining the research work to be undertaken during the period of the award. Proposal should state the research problem, discuss how the problem will be investigated, and show how it fits into the applicant’s overall plan of study. 2. A completed dissertation chapter or a substantial research proposal (7,000 words or more). 3. A short letter of recommendation from the student’s supervisor that discusses his or her progress to degree. 4. A summary of how the project fits in with Media@McGill’s mission statement. 5. An up-to-date curriculum vitae. Applicants should inform M@M of any other fellowships, amounts and year(s) of final payment.
Condition of Award: Successful applicants must agree to have their research proposal posted on the Media@McGill website and to acknowledge the support of Media@McGill in material produced with the aid of these funds. Within a year of the award date (and in order to receive the final payment), the student must submit a 500-word (or longer) report on the project that will replace the research proposal on the website.
