Freedom of expression under attack

We tend to take freedom of expression for granted in Canada. Although guaranteed by Article 2.b of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, freedom of expression is indeed a fragile value that must be constantly defended. Legal scholar Pierre Trudel points out, in an article in Le Devoir, that Bill C-10, which proposes to give the government the right to withdraw financial support from film and television productions that it deems “offensive”, is an attack on freedom of expression.
