Dissertation Completion Grants

English

Media@McGill offers dissertation completion grants, on a competitive basis, to doctoral students in communication studies. Details for the competition are presented below. For a list of students awarded fellowships in the previous competitions, click here.

Goal: To facilitate the completion of dissertations.

Eligibility: Students must have defended their dissertation proposal and made significant progress on this dissertation, such that they can reasonably expect to deposit by 31 August 2012. Preference may be given to students who do not hold major fellowships from other sources.

Award: $4000 at the time of award, $1000 on the deposit of a defense copy of the doctoral dissertation.

Application materials: 1. A single page letter of application that summarizes dissertation work completed and work remaining. 2. A detailed outline of the dissertation (no longer than 1000 words). 3. A short letter of recommendation from the student's supervisor that discusses his or her progress to degree. 4. A summary on how the project fits in with Media@McGill's mission statement. 5. An up-to-date curriculum vitae. Applicants should inform M@M of any other fellowship, amounts and final year(s) of payment.

Condition of Award: Successful applicants must agree to have their dissertation outline posted on the Media@McGill website. Upon deposit of the dissertation, they may submit a revised outline if there are significant changes.

Deadlines: 5 October 2011.

To apply: Submit completed dossier in care of Marc Raboy, Director of Media@McGill, Department of Art History and Communication Studies, before 5 pm, on the deadline date.

Please deposit the dossier in his mail box at the AHCS department. No document (except the supervisor's letter) will be accepted by e-mail unless the student is out of town - same deadline, 5pm, Montreal time.

Applicants will be informed of decisions approximately four weeks later.
