Thanks to Media@McGill’s generous support, I will be joining the New Cities Foundation’s team in their Montreal headquarters from January to April 2018. I will be bringing my skills and expertise in contemporary art and arts administration to a research project and policy brief on art and public spaces in Montreal.
The New Cities Foundation is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to foster urban development through innovation. It conducts pragmatic research on solutions to challenges faced by cities, launches initiatives to drive urban progress, and establishes a global network in support of its goals.
Given my academic and professional experience in the arts, I am equipped to provide a distinctive perspective to their initiatives. My research will aim to identify the innovative approaches in terms of arts and public spaces already being implemented in Montreal, build on them, and propose new ones. As part of this research project, I will be carrying out an expert forum to bring together organizations engaging in original initiatives related to this field. I will also conduct comparative research to consider how other cities around the world have led similar initiatives that could inspire and serve as a model for Montreal. Ultimately, these efforts will result in a policy brief with a comprehensive study indentifying creative approaches already being implemented in the city and recommending avenues for improvement.
This exciting opportunity to conduct research for New Cities will hone and broaden the knowledge and skills I have acquired at McGill and build on my decade-long career as an arts administrator and experience working in community outreach.
