Building Media Systems Post-Conflict – Integrating Public Service Broadcasting
My work addresses questions of media and democracy. I am particularly interested in exploring means for facilitating citizens’ right to communicate – despite economic, political, social, and technical obstacles.
My doctoral research will pay particular attention to the possibilities for establishing and maintaining public service broadcasting in media systems without necessarily having a public service broadcaster. I am interested in the role regulatory frameworks can play, as well as journalism institutions – both professional and community based.
While this work has relevance in both developed and developing media systems, my research will focus on countries emerging from conflict - whose media systems are being re-established with the assistance of the international community.
