Not Enough Space in Main Hall for all IGF participants
One of the things I will try to do through these reports is to add a bit of background and context for those of you who may be attempting to follow the IGF from a distance through the various WSIS civil society listserves.
Yesterday, the lists were buzzing with accusations that civil society was being excluded from meaningful participation through an unfair allocation of ‘overpasses’ for the Main Hall.
Basically, the situation is that the Main Hall holds a maximum of 800 people and there are about 1500 people registered for the IGF. The solution that the Forum organizers have adopted is to announce that IGF accreditation alone no longer grants admission to the Main Hall and to create 800 ‘overpasses’ that, when coupled with a regular IGF accreditation, allow for admission to the main hall. Overflow rooms have been set up where Forum participants can watch the session on a CCTV feed and the session is beign webcast (see IGF website for details).
